Itinerary In Detail
MEDLIFE carefully crafts all of our field courses to provide immersive and authentic experiences for students.
While in the Andean highlands, venture to a traditional weaving community of the Sacred Valley and an interactive weaving workshop. This authentic experience is led by the non-profit organization of Awamaki, a group that works to preserve rural textile traditions and empowers women and girls with education and financial independence.
Next, you’ll participate in a MEDLIFE’s Mobile Clinic in one of the highland communities. Clinics offer quality medical care for community members, and the opportunity to enroll in our follow-up program if long-term care is required. Staffed by local doctors and nurses who speak the local language, understand local systems, and provide culturally sensitive care this is the perfect opportunity to learn more about healthcare in Peru while practicing your language skills. Learn some handy medical terminology while exercising your conversational skills when you communicate with patients.
Once you are acclimatized, head back to Cusco. Enjoy a tour of this beautiful ancient city, where the legacy of the Incas and Spanish colonizers sit side by side. Visit some of the many incredible sites, such as Qorikancha, the Cusco Cathedral, Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Puka Pukara, and Tambomachay.
After an intensive week of language instruction, add-on an optional tour or excursion. Discover the beautiful Lake Titicaca on a 3-day visit to the supposed birthplace of Inca civilization. The excursion offers great historical significance and first-hand cultural experiences with local communities. Or you could visit the biodiverse Galapagos Islands on a 4-day extension trip in one of the most unique ecosystems in the world.
