Medlife Chapters

MEDLIFE believes that in order to improve the overall health and welfare of families and communities in need, a comprehensive approach is needed. With this goal in mind, MEDLIFE seeks to deliver aid through three broad avenues: Medicine, Education, and Development (MED).

How do we do it?

Mobile Clinics

Medicine

MEDLIFE Mobile Clinics deliver primary care services to individuals and families who otherwise lack access.

Going beyond the services we can provide on our Mobile Clinics, MEDLIFE staff conduct year-round follow-up care and preventative health education workshops for those requiring additional care, ensuring that no patient is left behind.

Why Medicine?

Education

Education

Education is essential to enact sustainable change in poor communities. MEDLIFE hosts age and gender-specific educational programs that instruct and empower our patients on relevant health topics. We also offer workshops and childcare at certain sites like our MED Center for Primary Education in Lima.

Additionally, monthly donations to Moving Mountains support the construction of new classrooms or other services for schools in low-income areas.

Why Education?

Development

Development

Above all, MEDLIFE is a community development organization. Our projects like staircases or water pylons on Service Learning Trips address specific issues faced by individual communities. Additionally, donations to Moving Mountains support site-specific community development projects that vary greatly from region to region.

MEDLIFE places a priority on engaging and involving community stakeholders to promote the long-term use and maintenance of all of our projects.

Why Development?

COVID-19 RELIEF IN LATIN AMERICA

In response to the global crisis created by COVID-19, our team is working day in and day out to provide food for families struggling to make ends meet. Our efforts have fed hundreds of families, but as lockdowns continue more and more families need support.

This trip motivated me more to pursue a career in the healthcare field so that I can use my resources to help those who need it the most, similar to MEDLIFE’s mission.

Being involved with MEDLIFE is not like joining another club - its bigger than that. It is about joining a movement that seeks to help change people’s quality of life for forever.

Not only was I able to participate in a week long Mobile Clinic, shadowing doctors of all types of specialties including pharmacy, dentistry, gynecology, and more, but I was also able to learn about the culture and visit incredible places.

One thing that I really loved about this trip was that MEDLIFE made sure that the volunteers got an understanding of the complexity of issues that lead to underprivileged people in communities outside of the main city

Whether it was basketball with the local kids, assisting the doctors, talking with families, building washrooms, holding babies, or spending time with the people who were on the SLT with me, this was an amazing opportunity that I would do over and over again.

As an aspiring physician, MEDLIFE motivated me to further continue my goal of becoming a doctor. In fact, I enjoyed the Tanzania Service Learning Trip so much that I decided to go on another trip to Cusco, Peru.
