Travel Tips

  1. What are the visa requirements for traveling to Guatemala, and how long can visitors stay

For many travelers, a visa is not required for visiting Guatemala for tourism or business purposes for stays of up to 90 days. However, it’s essential to check specific visa requirements based on your nationality before traveling. Extensions may be possible for longer stays, but it’s advisable to consult with Guatemalan immigration authorities for precise guidelines.

  2. What are the safety considerations for travelers in Guatemala, particularly in tourist areas and cities?

While Guatemala offers stunning landscapes and cultural experiences, travelers should remain vigilant, especially in tourist areas and cities. Like any other country, petty theft, including pickpocketing and bag snatching, can occur, so it’s essential to keep belongings secure and avoid displaying valuables in public. Exercise caution when using public transportation. We advise using licensed taxis or ridesharing services like Uber. MEDLIFE ensures the safety of all of our volunteers by providing transportation to and from the communities we work in, as well as guides and chaperones when exploring the city in the evenings.

  3. How can I stay connected with mobile and internet services while in Guatemala?

In Guatemala, staying connected is straightforward. Purchase a SIM card from operators like Claro, Movistar, or CNT for good coverage and rates. These can be purchased before you leave on websites like Sim Corner, or you can purchase one in the airport when you land. You will have access to reliable Wi-Fi while you are in the hotel. For remote regions, consider a portable Wi-Fi device or plan for limited connectivity. Always check compatibility with your phone before buying a SIM card and ensure your phone is unlocked to use international SIMs.
