In June 2025, Welinton Marcelo Llamba Pala, a 15-year-old boy from the Pichan San Gerardo community in Canton Guano, was diagnosed with a hydrocele in his right testicle. This condition, which causes swelling due to fluid accumulation, was causing him significant discomfort. Through MEDLIFE’s follow-up care program, Welinton was able to receive the treatment he needed to address his health concerns and improve his quality of life. Thanks to the comprehensive healthcare services we were able to help him access, Welinton’s case was addressed in a timely manner, which ultimately led to a successful surgery.
Diagnosis, Initial Care And Arrangements
The first step in Welinton’s journey was a diagnosis made by a doctor at a MEDLIFE mobile clinic. The physician identified a hydrocele in his right testicle, and after a thorough examination, it was clear that surgery was necessary for his well-being. Despite living in an underserved community with limited access to healthcare, Welinton’s condition was able to be identified quickly, and follow-up care was immediately arranged. This timely intervention highlights the importance of MEDLIFE’s mobile clinic services, which bring medical care to remote communities, ensuring that patients like Welinton are not overlooked due to geographic and economic barriers.
Surgery and Treatment
After receiving the initial diagnosis, Welinton’s mother was informed about the next steps in his treatment. They were extremely grateful to learn that MEDLIFE would help with his medical expenses and provide the necessary resources for surgery. This support was critical, as Welinton’s mother, a single parent, was unable to afford the medical costs on her own.
In early July 2025, Welinton was admitted to the General Teaching Hospital in Riobamba for his surgery. After undergoing pre-surgical tests, he was prepared for the procedure. On July 9, 2025, Welinton successfully underwent hydrocele surgery, a procedure that involved draining the fluid and reducing the swelling. The surgery was a success, and the doctors were optimistic about his recovery.
Post-Surgery Care and Recovery
The day after the surgery, Welinton was visited by the MEDLIFE team to check on his recovery. The medical staff confirmed that everything had gone smoothly and that Welinton was expected to recover well. As part of MEDLIFE’s comprehensive health care approach, Welinton was scheduled for a follow-up appointment to ensure that he healed properly and to address any concerns. He was advised to return for a post-operative check-up on July 21, 2025, to monitor his recovery.
In addition to the physical care, the support from MEDLIFE’s team extended to Welinton’s family, who were provided with guidance and assistance throughout the process. This holistic approach to healthcare emphasizes not only treating the condition but also ensuring that the family has the support they need.
