Ana, a 38-year-old resident of the Tuntatacto community in Guano Canton, recently received crucial gynecological care through MEDLIFE’s patient follow-up program. After being seen at a Mobile Clinic in Riobamba, Ana was quickly enrolled in a series of timely follow-up and coordination to ensure comprehensive treatment for the ailments she came into the clinic looking to find answers for.
Initial Consultations and Tests
Ana’s journey started with visitinf the Lizarzaburu Health Subcenter with the results of her routine blood, stool, and urine tests. The attending doctor confirmed that her lab results were within normal parameters. During the consultation, Ana reported experiencing significant hair loss, fatigue, mood swings, and dry skin. These symptoms raised concerns about thyroid function, and the doctor recommended TSH, T3, and T4 blood tests to rule out any issues with the glands of the endocrine system. Additionally, because she was entering pre-menopause, a pap smear test was ordered to screen for cervical abnormalities.
Follow-Up Care
Ana underwent her thyroid and Pap smear tests at the General Teaching Hospital of Riobamba and Solca Hospital, respectively. MEDLIFE’s follow-up care team ensured that every step, from testing to specialist referrals, was coordinated efficiently, so Ana could receive timely attention despite living in a rural area with limited access to medical services.
Intervention and Next Steps
The results revealed no thyroid problems; however, the Pap smear indicated a low-grade intraepithelial lesion (LIE). Recognizing the importance of early intervention, the doctor referred Ana for a specialized gynecology consultation. She subsequently underwent a colposcopy and biopsy at Solca Hospital to evaluate the lesion further. These procedures are vital in preventing the progression of cervical abnormalities and ensuring patients receive appropriate treatment.
