Patient Stories: Mr. Aquiles

Our patient stories are why we do what we do. Every patient tells a story, and each story is a reminder of why we continue to work tirelessly to improve medical outreach in underserved communities. One such story is that of Mr. Aquiles, an 81-year-old man from the rural community of Kataniray in Cusco, Peru, whose life was transformed by access to much-needed healthcare.

Mr. Aquiles

For years, Mr. Aquiles lived without the proper healthcare resources, which led to complications with his prostate. As his condition worsened, he faced increasing pain and uncertainty of how he was going to access help. However, his story took a positive turn when he was able to receive medical care after attending a MEDLIFE mobile clinic.

On February 8th, Mr. Aquiles was hospitalized for prostate issues that had been untreated for far too long. Just two days later, he underwent a four-hour prostate surgery that was successful and life-saving. By February 14th, Mr. Aquiles was discharged, full of hope for the future.

However, Mr. Aquiles’ story doesn’t end with his surgery. Two weeks later, he returned for a check-up. During this visit, his stitches and urostomy bag were removed, marking a crucial step in his recovery. His strength and resilience continue to shine through, reminding us all of the power of medical outreach programs and how patient follow-up is crucial for ensuring long-term positive results.

Patient stories like Mr. Aquiles’ are a reminder of what MEDLIFE’s mission is all about, and a testament to the difference we can make. These stories show us that access to healthcare, especially in rural communities, is not just about seeing patients, it’s about restoring hope and improving quality of life through ongoing care.

At MEDLIFE, we are dedicated to providing access to healthcare for individuals like Mr. Aquiles, ensuring that every patient has the opportunity to thrive. Let his story inspire us all to continue fighting for equal access to healthcare and to support communities in need.
