Sarah Sepulveda’s Journey
Sarah Sepulveda, from the University of Dayton, was able to experience a Service Learning Trip in Peru where she worked alongside peers and local professionals in uplifting a local community to have better access to healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
We chatted with Sarah about what it meant to her to receive the scholarship and volunteer in one of our partner communities. Here’s what she said:
MEDLIFE: What does this scholarship mean to you?
Sarah: I loved it. I was so excited, when I got the email that I finally received the scholarship, I was joyful I was screaming. Because it meant coming here. It meant doing what I love and helping others. It meant being able to get a new perspective on this new culture I’m just learning about. The scholarship just helped me be able to get to more people and help more people.
MEDLIFE: How has this trip impacted your life?
Sarah: It’s just breaking down those barriers we have created with different types of like languages and things like that. It’s breaking down those barriers and being able to learn more. I’ve learned so much. Meeting all these new people, it brought me new friends that I will cherish for a lifetime. And it brought me so much happiness. I say, it cured my soul. It is the best opportunity I’ve ever had. So if you can come, come. Just apply for the scholarship, whatever you can do. Because it is incredible. You will not regret it at all. Come!
In Peru, Sarah participated in community development projects, working alongside locals to address pressing needs within their community. This entire experience not only allowed her to contribute meaningfully but also provided her with invaluable insights into Peruvian culture and the challenges faced by low-income communities.
